Foot Care Courses For A New Career

Are you looking for information on Foot Care Courses?

If so, then your search is over. Training to become a Foot Care Practitioner, Podiatry Assistant or Nail Technician performing Pedicures maybe the best move you will ever make. Check out our site for further information or sign up to our newsletter for more: Foot Health Wealth

In the United Kingdom you have a choice between four main foot health educational suppliers training students to become FHP’s or Foot Care Practitioners or FHP’s.

Best Foot Care Course providers:

  • Stonebridge Associated Colleges – http://www.stonebridge.uk.com
  • SMAE Institute – http://www.training4feet.co.uk
  • College of Foot Health Practitioners – http://www.collegefhp.com
  • Open Study College – http://www.openstudycollege.com/courses/foot-health-course.html

All offer foot care training in two parts, a theory section and practical section. The theory part consists of distance learning modules, done at home without the need to attend college and often with a tutor assigned. The practical part is done over one or two weeks at a training facility equipped. These Foot Care courses give the student the confidence to perform basic foot care like removal of corns and calluses and the treatment of a variety of foot and nail conditions like fungal and wart infections.

The cost of these courses may seem slightly high from the outset, around £2,000 depending on the number of weeks of practical training. However, once you are trained your income potential can be staggering. Click here and opt into our mailing list for more: Foot Care Training

Once qualified as a FHP you will become a registered member of that particular college which will enable you to do updated training and obtain the required insurance cover. However, you will not be able to use the title ‘Chiropodist’ or ‘Podiatrist’ as these are now legally protected titles.

Practitioner opportunities in the Foot Care Industry

If you are looking for how the foot health industry exists in the UK in it’s present form, then listed below is the structure based on educational requirements (And this is without considering the Footwear industry):

  • Podiatrist
  • Podiatry Assistant (Medical Pedicure® in the USA)
  • Foot Care Professional
  • Beauty Therapist/Nail Technician (Medi Pedi’s in the US)
  • Reflexologists

Podiatry is the professional end of foot care with invasive procedures like ingrown toenail and bunion removal with gait analysis to prescribe orthotics. Foot health courses for Podiatrists are normally full time tertiary university degrees although part time courses are available.

A Foot Care Assistant, is trained “on the job” either in the NHS or in private practice, which involves a minimum of 500 clinical hours, and includes practical training and theory and oral assessments.

Those looking for an easier way into foot care should consider a nail or pedicure course. They of ten form part of a beauty therapist course but can be done individually at some colleges.  They are aimed at beautifying the foot, many people just find they need their nails cut, and so the income potential of a nail technician is not that different from that of a foot care professional.

Generally FHP’s have a domicillary practice, visiting patients in their own home. However, this has many advantages with part time working, child care arrangements, holidays and keeping business overheads to a minimum.

The best thing about being a well trained and competent FHP and completing one of the above Foot Care Courses, is that you can earn almost as much as a 3 year, degree trained Podiatrist if you set your practice up correctly.

Nice to see your article, I concur with all that you say other than not including our college on your list, but never mind, its possibly an oversite and competition is good and we dont complain at not being on the list yet, maybe following our comments, consideration will be given to including us after all our theory course is possibly the most intensive and informed around, our practical is somewhat different as it is given ( sold ) in the form of lectures with hands demonstrations. keep going on this site guys, its well needed and we ( FCA ) will give you our support, particularly if it ultimately forms a national certification body PB

To say that a Foot Health Practitioner can earn as much as a Degree Trained Podiatrist is, in my opinion, nonsense, so I’ll be very pleased to have a copy of your e-book to tell me how it is done!
A Podiatrist can earn more practising nail surgery in a day than a Foot Health Practitioner can earn all week.
